Preliminary Exercise 10: Camera Movement Techniques Organizer

A camera movement is the way a camera shifts to visually narrate and shape a viewer's perspective of a scene. You can use camera movement to guide the audience through the scene, slowly revealing certain people or objects in order to create suspense or simply control the pacing of the scene. A camera can capture the shot using the movements tilt, pan, push in, and pull out. Different types of camera movements, such as tracking shots or static shots, can create different emotional responses from the audience. For example, a tracking shot can create a feeling of tension or urgency while a static shot can create a sense of stability or contemplation.

Reflection Paragraph

I was introduce to camera movement techniques used in films by being in a Media Studies class. I really had no idea what it was until I got put in the class. My team and I used a power-point presentation to create this assignment. Each person was assigned a slide to do, Jane I did 2 slides, I did 3 slides, and Paul T did 2 slides. We used computers to complete this assignment, each having our own. I would say I was a expert on this because it's not new to me and I'm experienced on using power-point due to me using it in the past. In this exercise, I learned about different camera movement techniques.

Preliminary Exercise 9: Practicing Camerawork: Shot Sizes, Camer Angles, Framing, and Camera Composition Day 2

Filming on a site refers to the process of capturing video footage at a specific location or set. It involves setting up cameras, arranging the necessary equipment, and capturing scenes or shots according to the requirements of the film or productions. Cinematography is the art and techniques of capturing and manipulating images on film or digital media. It involves making creative decisions about camera angles, lighting, framing, and movement to visually tell a story and evoke emotions. All the responsibility of this task goes to a cinematographer. A famous cinematographer is Emmanual Lubezki. He has worked on many visually stunning films; "Gravity" (2013) and "The Revenant" (2015).

Reflection Paragraph

Filming our shots on the second day were way easier because we are just doing the exact same thing, we did on the first day. My team and I did switch roles again like how we did on the first day. We'd switch who was taking the pictures and who was getting their picture taken. Again, we used our phones to complete this task but mainly Paul Ts because they have a better camera than all three of us. I would say I'm an expert. I learned about how to apply knowledge and understanding of theoretical and creative approaches through this assignment.

Preliminary Exercise 8: Practicing Camerawork: Shot Sizes, Camera Angles, Framing, Camera Composition Day 1

Camerawork in film is the choices made by the cinematographer and director regarding how the camera captures and frames the action, characters, and scenes. It involves the use of different camera angles, movements, and compositions to visually tell the story and evoke the specific emotions in the audience. Camerawork is important for visual storytelling, setting the mood, enhancing characterization, creating visual interest. Shots sizes is the distance between the camera and the subject being filmed. For example, a close up shot, it's the camera being positioned up close to the subject. Camera angles is the position from which the camera captures the action or scene. For example, a low angle, it's being taken from a position below the subject. Framing is how the elements within the shot are composed or arranged within the frame. For example, rule of thirds, it's where the frame is divided into a grid of nine equal parts using two horizontal and two vertical lines. Composition is the arrangement of visual elements within the frame to create a visually appealing and meaningful image. The person responsible for camerawork on a film production is the cinematographer. They work closely with the director to visually capture the story and create the desired look and feel of the film. An example of a famous cinematographer in Roger Deakins. He made the films "Blade Runner 2049" in 2017 and "No Country for Old Man" in 2007. My team and I develop camerawork skills to create our film to be experts in filming and completely our film successfully.

Reflection Paragraph

My team and I took these pictures in the school library, near the vending machines, and the cafeteria. Taking these pictures was really easy because we had already planned what we were going to take pictures of and how we were going to do them. Between Jane I, Paul T, and myself we would switch who was being the person taking the pictures and who was the person getting their pictures taken. We used Jane I’d phone since their camera was better than Paul Ts and mines. I would say that I’m an expert on the assignment because it’s fairly simple to take pictures that take no longer than 5 minutes and I learned how to match pictures to each different storyline in our storyboard.

Preliminary Exercise 7: Storyboard Camerawork Day 2

When making a storyboard, you need to know what story you are trying to tell. Start to plan what’s going to happened for each shot. Storyboard artists need to use drawing skill to plan or a strong visual storytelling skill to bring the script to life prior to production. Using the right colors to make it come together. The objectives of sheets 3 and 4 is basically using them as a roadmap when we take the shots in real life, not just on a piece of paper. In this assignment I will be executing almost all camerawork techniques.

Sheet 4

Reflection

This assignment was way easier because my team and I have already completed sheets 1 and 3, so we got the hang of it. We did accomplish the goal of this assignment. Jane I was the one drawing and coloring them, Paul T and I were the ones planning and giving ideas for our storyboard sheets. We also used our phones to look up the right type of shots we need to use. I would say I’m a expert on this assignment, with the help of my teammates, it was very easy to complete.

Preliminary Exercise 6: Storyboarding Camerawork Day 1

Storyboards help out map out the compositions of shots. the placement and types of elements, character arrangement, and to plan out the camera movements and perspectives. Film production is the photographing, film creation, and the production of a commercial or motion picture. The product my team and I are producing is a storyboard with 16 different shots with 16 different story lines. Camerawork is the use of cameras used in a movie or type of television program. It helps in showcasing the story and showing the emotions to the audience depending on the lighting, camera angles, framing, etc. In this assignment my team and I will be using shot sizes, framing, composition, and camera angles.

Sheet 2

Reflection

My team and I created storyboards to show our understanding on using them to plan out our film. We prepared for this exercise by discussing what our actions lines will be, the type of shots, framing, and composition. It was the three of us. Jane I, Paul T, and me, Miley N. We all did some of everything in the process of completing the storyboards. I would say I’m an expert for this certain assignment and I learned how storyboards are very important for planning a film.
